Georgia-Alabama Immigration Legal Service Infrastructure Fund (GAILSIF)

AILA GA-AL is excited to officially introduce the Georgia-Alabama Immigration Legal Service Infrastructure Fund (GAILSIF). This initiative is a new way for us to bring some structure, strategy, and sustainability to the annual giving our Chapter has already been providing for nonprofit legal service organizations doing work on the ground in Georgia and Alabama.

We all know that our region’s immigration legal community is strongest because of the incredible work done by both private attorneys and nonprofit legal service providers. Private attorneys take on life-changing cases every day — often with limited resources and immeasurable personal investment. At the same time, nonprofit organizations fill a critical gap by serving individuals who have no ability to pay for counsel. And importantly, these nonprofits regularly refer paying clients to private attorneys — helping ensure that those with resources find excellent representation. This is an ecosystem, and it only works when all parts of it are strong and supported.

But we’re entering a moment where that support is under threat. The federal government is pulling back from long-standing commitments to fund immigration legal services, especially for nonprofits. That means many organizations are being forced to scale back — at the exact time their clients need them the most.

GAILSIF is our Chapter’s response to that. In 2025, the Chapter has committed to matching all contributions to GAILSIF up to $20,000. Every dollar you give will go directly to local nonprofit legal service providers in Georgia and Alabama. We’ll provide more information shortly and plan to host a page on our Chapter website to make it easy to give to GAILSIF.

We’re keeping the process simple, transparent, and efficient. Our goal is to get resources into the hands of organizations doing the work — not to burden them with red tape. And by building this fund year after year, we can begin to offer these organizations something they rarely get: predictable, flexible support they can count on.

So I hope you’ll join us in making GAILSIF part of how we show up for our community — and for each other.
